What exactly is Grand Theft Auto 3rd Degree and I do not mean the video game?

I have a friend who was convicted of Grand Theft Auto in the 3rd Degree and I am wanting to know what that means exactly. Trying to figure it out on your own you end up with alot of info on the video game and it gets frustrating to say the least. Anyways....it was in the State of Florida.What exactly is Grand Theft Auto 3rd Degree and I do not mean the video game?
Grand Theft = property was stolen

Auto = vehicle

Third Degree = severity of the charge (lower numbers generally mean more severe)

In Florida, it is grand theft of the third degree and a felony of the third degree if the property stolen is a motor vehicle. A third degree felony is punishable by a term of imprisonment of not more than five years and/or a fine of not more than $5,000.What exactly is Grand Theft Auto 3rd Degree and I do not mean the video game?
It means that they have been convicted of a third degree felony. The degree and crime will determine the range of punishment. You may have heard people say "first degree murder" or "second degree murder." With homicides the difference generally goes to the mental state of the perpetrator. With theft cases, the value of the item or items stolen is often the factor.
